Seva (Punjabi: ਸੇਵਾ) or selfless service is an act which is performed without any expectation of result or award for the person performing it.
Serasana participates in seva throughout the year to numerous clients in need and also to local and national charities.
1. We are honored to serve our communities by offering acupuncture, at no cost, to those fighting cancer. Our acupuncturists work collaberatively with each client’s cancer treatment protocol to ease the harsh side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
2. The Phoenix Center is an organization that is especially close to our hearts. As a founding board member and currently a part of the advisory board, Serasana and its Affiliate, Sana Vida, are deeply devoted to their cause of providing mental health services to At-Risk-Youth. They incorporate yoga therapy into their list of services for the children. Many of our team members, families and clients have been involved by donating money regularly, serving as loyal board members and working with the children directly.
3. Each one of the Serasana therapists and instructors give of their time every year by doing pro-bono work for clients in need and as they donate their professional service for fundraisers by many non-profit organizations.
While donating services may be performed with the core intention of helping others, there is also a common wisdom that those who give of themselves also receive. Over the past two decades there has been a growing body of research that indicates volunteering provides individual health benefits in addition to social benefits. This research has established a strong relationship between volunteering and health: those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer. Now that’s a win-win situation!
